Saye's Self-Steering Rig $850

ID:	31705I purchased this Saye's rig used to install on my 32 Kendall (Westsail) but was told by Scanmar that they never worked well for my style of boat. Rather than fighting it I moved onto a Monitor so I never installed it.
I live in San Diego and would like to keep it semi local but am willing to ship if necessary (would be costly). It's built heavy with all bronze and stainless. Will take more photos on request.

Pros. Very simple. No lines through cockpit and no spare parts needed. Company is still in business and are very helpful.

Con. Have to haul out to install tiller arm to rudder

Thanks
Mike

Re: Saye's Self-Steering Rig $850

Is your pendulum shaft 60"? We'd need the 72" version (& the 84" tiller arm) for our Formosa 51.

Re: Saye's Self-Steering Rig $850

Cap'n Jon, how's it going?

The shaft (1 1/2" SS tube only) length from the top of the trim tab is 55".

The total length from the bottom of the paddle to the end of the ss tube is 72"

The tiller arm is very short at 45". Personally I believe that is why it wouldn't be as effective on a boat like mine with an aft hung rudder. Just not enough leverage.

Sorry it took so long. I was out all day.
If you need any thing else let me know.

Re: Saye's Self-Steering Rig $850

Hello! I just bought a Westsail 42 (hull #1) and want to install a Sayes Rig. Is it still available?
Thanks, and looking forward to hearing back from you.

Yes sailadventurer, the Saye's rig is still available. Wow hull #1 of the WS 42. Great boats. Let me know if you need anymore pictures or info.

Re: Saye's Self-Steering Rig $850

Hi and thanks for getting back to me. I think we could make this work, perhaps with a longer paddle shaft and maybe a windvane modification, but as long as the basic unit is in good shape (bearings OK, parts not bent and no crevice corrosion on the stainless parts) then we'd like to buy it.
We will actually be out in Phoenix around the first week of November so could drive over and pick it up then. Isn't Scanmar not too far away? I could combine it with a trip to them to get the longer shaft, etc... or maybe we can modify it here in Florida.
How can I contact you and how can I best get payment to you?
Also, could you provide the total height of the rotation windvane assembly?, and the length of the shaft that extends down from that to the bronze mechanism? This will help me while I try to figure out what mods will be needed, and how we are going to mount it under our mizzen boom.
Thanks!
Todd

Re: Saye's Self-Steering Rig $850

Sounds great. My e-mail is mike160871@yahoo.com
Shoot me an email and I'll get those dimensions with photos to you.
Scanmar is actually up near San Fransisco Bay area (Richmond) so they are a good drive from me in San Diego. They are very helpful though and will send you anything you need.
The unit is all in real good shape (except the tiller arm which should be an easy fix without having to buy a new one. I'll explain later) and once we exchange e-mails I'll get a good video and pics and send them to you later today. We can talk more about payment after you've seen the unit in more detail. If you still want it I suggest waiting till we see each other face to face.
