Searunner 34

Still looking to purchase a preowned Searunner 34. Would also be interested in a 37' but my first choice is the 34. If anyone happens to know of one for sale I would be very interested. My last choice would be a fixed wing 31. Don't mind a little fixing up but the price must be comensurate with the condition. You may write me direct at renloe@bellsouth.net Thanks and have a great year! Randy

I don't know if you have checked in the Searunner thread, might be a good idea as anyone who owns a Searunner will know what is around in there area.

I have seen the one on Ebay but have not gone down to see it. Doesn't the fixed wing 31 have a cutout with nets? Did they ever make a completely fixed wing 31 with no cutouts? just wondering. Thanks Randy

Make?

They "made" them anyway you glued them together in your backyard. The 31 had an A-Frame, the one one ebay, a vent wing (with the nets) and the fixed wing. Personally I like the fixed wing and I think you could make the forward bunks wider on the 31 with them. Also, I prefer the mast out of the cockpit. You spend a lot more time lounging in the cockpit than you do sail handling and the forward maststep on the on the 31 seems much better than the other designs. The 34 is supposed to be the best boat, but there are so few of them around. Or maybe just so few for sale? Anyone have an idea how many 34's were built?

Good price on Jim Brown's book. It is invaluable to a Searunner fan.

I talked with Jim Brown this fall and he was surprised I had a 34' he said "there is not many of those around"

The Case for the Cruising Trimaran by Jim Brown (197... - eBay (item 220538249824 end time Feb-08-10 23:04:46 PST)

I had wing vents on this 34' as well as the older 37' The 37' had teak grate lid which was nicer for walking I guess. Either way I have enjoyed the vents.

Book

Hey, bought the book thanks for the tip. There's a 34 for sale in Maui I may buy. Spend several weeks cruising on Hawaii this spring then shove off for the South Pacific. You only live once right?

I saw it on the Hawaii Craigslist. He doesn't really have all the specs and pics together yet. He has a lot of recent equipment, but it has recurring issued of the galvanized nails bleeding thru the paint and he also mentioned needing to get it tented for termites a few years back whick make me wonder. He doesn't seem to have a lot of patience for rudder-kickers from the mainland; so I'm waiting for him to get back to me. I'm also considering Maxolar, but that boat really needs a lot of updating and was never epoxy sealed on any of the interior plywood.
