Someone who lives in the Fort Lauderdale region to receive mail

Hi guys,

I know I put free but a couple of cases of beer or wine will be exchanged for anyone who can help us out or direct us to a business that can hold packages for non us citizens.

We need to get some things to our boat in the Bahamas and are flying through Fort Lauderdale and staying for one night and half a Saturday in early January before the last flight to Freeport.

These are parts to fix any engine issues we may encounter and therefore should (should...) not be taxed when we arrive in Freeport given we will be carrying a copy of our cruising permit. Either way, tax or no tax, that is a different topic.

We are buying online in advance as we have limited time, we need somewhere to send these parts. Hotels won't accept the gear so it doesn't matter what/where I book for the night.

Of course, the only issue with this is we don't know anyone so we could just be giving our boat bits away to some random person and I'm sure there are people out there who would say DO NOT even think about sending boat bits to someone you don't know....in that case, does anyone have any better idea?

Cheers in advance for any pointers....

Kate

If you are SSCA members you can have them shipped to home base., many do.

I think most of the places will ship to Australia. It's just with things like two starter motors, with the weight of the package it starts getting $$$$$$$. I was able to get free shipping on most things when I sent it to where we first picked up the boat in the US. Worst case scenario is we wear the cost and send it to Aus or I am looking at whether I can rent a PO Box (3 month min) in the Fort Lauderdale area. We have options, just thought I would try the "in exchange for grog" option first

Kate - you always have me. But you are going to have to rent a car in Ft. Lauderdale to come over and pick them up.

Is Miami close enough?

American Express offices used to hold packages for travelling card members. I used to use them all the time for staging needs along trips overseas in the 80's. I do not know if they still do it though.

Re: Someone who lives in the Fort Lauderdale region to receive mail

Just received an email and it appears "The Mail Centre of Fort Lauderdale" have changed to a one month mail box policy which is perfect. Cost of $30 which is fine. Thank you to everyone who offered to help. Herman, I thought of asking and hiring a car actually. This time it wouldn't have been so far at least!

You can have packages sent via UPS held for pickup at the distribution center for a short time. Or get a box at a UPS Store and they will hold a package sent to the box.

Easy solution.

Pick a conveniently located post office and address it to "General Delivery" at the post office. Call ahead to make sure they will accept it and they are open on Saturday. I sent a prop to a guy crewing on the Danmark that way for him to take back home.
