Need to build a mount for my 4 solar panels. Looking to buy stainless tubing for this project. I am in the Melbourne, FL area.

Thanks,

There is a marine salvage store in Ft. Pierce on US1 . I'm not sure of the name, but I've bought some good stuff there in the past.

If you don't find what you want locally, have it shipped from a supplier. There are several specialty metal suppliers online and I also use McMaster-Carr:

I needed a mast for my wind gen. Wanted polished SS. I was surprised at how hard it was to find. After a day of calling around, I found some at a shop that makes handicapped grab rails and other custom SS fabricating. When you talk on the phone, make sure you mention "mirror finish". Some shops have an 'interesting' notion of what polished means.

Also, Garhauer stocks SS tube for their dingy engine lift.

Contact sailrite at www.sailrite.com. They sell 1" tubing for about $6 a foot (seems to be the going rate). I think they will bend it to your specs for a small fee. Alternately, any good metal shop in your are should be able to get 304 or 316 stainless tubing for you.

Yep, Sailrite is cheaper than OnlineMetals. That was pretty surprising actually. Usually the word Sail or Marine makes the price go up 300%. ;-)

Mirror finish is VERY hard to produce by yourself. So don't buy 'polished' SS tube without verifying that it is mirror finish.

You should be able to find a source locally. Ask the bimini fab shops where they get their tubing. 1" should be easy to find that way. Thicker tube or pipe can be found locally, just takes more digging.

perfect example of the law of economics.... they get the stuff at salvage rates and strip boats, and basically get the railings for free, then sell it for just under the going rate for new material???

gotta love the free market
