which design of newick are you looking for?

they seem like fairly old/outmoded concepts to me.

Now, I wouldn't go that far.... Dick Newick was/is a great designer boat builder.. My Dad used to help him build and sail his boats out of Christensted St. Croix...

The stories they told, one of sailing one up to Martha's Vineyard in a record time..

In my opinion, the only drawback if any, would be the newer materials the brand new tri's are made of now..

oops! I guess I don't express myself too clearly there ...

Newick was a giant and without doubt fundamentally changed the trimaran from a boxy, ugly affair (imo) to a graceful, viable ocean sailer. cheers, three cheers, moxie, etc etc etc. Ocean surfer was an eye-turner altho those floats never really did catch on - but at least Newick thought outside the box. And yes, an excellent builder to boot.

I know Lock Crowther and others were all active around the same time (and I can't really tell the difference between a Walter Greene and a Dick Newick design), but for me Newick was the man who really started evolving what we think of as the modern trimaran.

His later designs, like pats, are interesting, but what I was getting at was that a modern, composite design with high bouyancy floats has to be a faster, stronger and safer.

You're dad is a lucky man to have been involved with the "proa constructor"
