Tiller for Swanson Carmen 31

Need to get some extra space in the cockpit. Will remove wheel and platform.

Great boat the Carmen. Had one many years ago. Bit of a dilemma there though. The cockpit is fairly small due to the design, not sure of a tiller sweeping back and forth will be any more unimposing upon the space. mine had a tiller, a friend had a wheel, cannot say that one gave a more spacious feeling than the other.

How's that for a helping post?

Is that a wood boat or did they build them in glass too? I always like the look of the carmens.

Both the ones I have sailed on have been glass, although my friends was glass hull only, laid deck and timber cabin. She was called Esmerelda, mine was Miranda. Fantastic sea boats.

Now considering getting the traveller out of cockpit and onto the cabin. Concerned if the cabin in strong enough, maybe a boom break my make this possible.

This is a sad neglected example of a timber one, but you can see the cockpit with a tiller. The glass versions had a more standard and functional cabin on them.
