Volvo Penta Saildrive 120S-E

Hello,

I'm looking for the back mounting bracket from a 120S-E. This is the mount for the round bushing. If you have an old 120S-E saildrive with this part on it, I'd like to buy it.

Thank you.

Hi John.

Yes, I do. Do you have it? I need the rubber bushing and hardware to mount to the motor base too.

Thanks.

Re: Volvo Penta Saildrive 120S-E

Thanks, John.

I'm looking for the 44A part in that diagram - the one that has a round bushing. I think 873149 is what I already have.

The reason I'm looking for this is that my engine is mounted backward, with the saildrive turned around. At higher rpm's the saildrive side wants to lift up. I believe the 44A mount would handle that better.

Thanks for the offer and the attachment.

Michiel

Re: Volvo Penta Saildrive 120S-E

Dunno if this is just mental masturbation, but when I was into hot rods, if we had an engine that torqued too much (and I've seen windshields broken from frame flex) we'd put on what we called a 'torque chain' ergo we'd literally chain down the engine to keep twist at a minimum. Perhaps a strap or bit of chain to something stout, if the mount cannot be found or else doesn't work?

And, are you really sure your engine mounts are ok?

Hi, thanks for the thoughts.

Your torque chain is interesting, I was starting to think about attaching a cable with a turnbuckle today.

This engine sits on only three engine mounts. One flat under the saildrive and two in the back. The ones in the back are tilted pretty steeply towards each other and less steeply towards the saildrive.

This is clearly designed to have the saildrive pushing towards the engine. In that case, the leverage of the saildrive will compress the mount that's under the saildrive and the engine is pushed onto the two tilted mounts.

In my case, with the saildrive turned around this doesn't work so well. The saildrive side wants to lift up and that mount is not designed for expansion. It also wants to pull away from the two tilted mounts.

I think the mounts I have are shot, they got mushy from oil. But they are stretched sideways, from the engine pulling away from the mounts. While I have the engine out (I'm rebuilding it) I'd like to improve the engine mounts.

Other than attaching a cable I'm starting to think about having custom mounts made. But I'd like to try the brackets for the non-saildrive MD11-D in the rear and see if the 120S-E saildrive rear will fit on my 120S.
