Re: Want to Buy CPT Autopilot

Not only the old style, but an old old style. Wouldnt be surprised if it dates back to the 1980 decade.

Re: Want to Buy CPT Autopilot

Hi David,

I would be hesitant to pay more than $300 for it. But if you can get it for under $300 then - even if you have to pay for some repairs - it's still going to be worth it. The guys at CPT really stand behind their product.

Re: Want to Buy CPT Autopilot

What Matt said. You might want to call CPT to ask them if they will work on one that old before committing. Probably yes, but not sure.

Re: Want to Buy CPT Autopilot

Having bought a used one and sent it in for just a little clean up and small repair with both way shipping will cost you at least $600. Now if the system has anything maj wrong with it you would be far better to just buy new and get the new updated version with warranty.

Wow! Times have changed. I sent my 1990's unit in for service about 8 years ago and paid $150 (shipping to CPT not included). They serviced the unit and replaced the motor with another used but good working motor. Been using it ever since.

Re: Want to Buy CPT Autopilot

8 years ago would have been before the currant owners bought CPT. Now I never worked with the previous owners but I have the currant owners and I think they are great to work with.

As for that unit in Atlanta I wouldn't buy at any price and most of it is not even CPT and what is doesn't look good.

Re: Want to Buy CPT Autopilot

SV Maverick, I worked with Jeff, who I think is the current owner. Might have been less than 8 years ago.

I think the previous owners were more interested in selling windvane steering gear and treated the CPT as a secondary product which they had little interest in.

Re: Want to Buy CPT Autopilot

Just noticed that old (partial) CPT auto pilot on eBay sold for $620. I hope it wasn't anyone on here. The wires between boxes cut which shouldn't be. No control box mounting brackets. No Pedestal mount kit $85. No U mount bracket with T handle,,which you have to have. No hardware to mount the wheel $,,however as the wheel teeth are wore off you will need a new wheel from CPT for $250 (although you get new hardware to mount it than).
So just to recap to complete this old unit that may or may not work you will have close to 1k. AND if it doesn't work properly you get to box it up and ship to CPT for inspection and repair (which is always good to do on old units like these) to the point you almost could have just bought new and shiny with much better technology and a warranty.

As they say in England: "One born every minute!"

On a brighter note: seller must be laughing all the way to the bank!

Re: Want to Buy CPT Autopilot

Thanks to the advice on CF I DID NOT buy that unit. I watched it go past 400 and deleted it from my watch list?
