Re: Want to Buy CPT Autopilot

There was an older generation one on ebay not that long ago, like in the last two weeks.. People just don't sell them....once they get them, unless they are going to the newer version.

Re: Want to Buy CPT Autopilot

I have a new, unused, CPT autopilot that I bought back in 2009 as a "spare" to my already installed CPT. It was sold by CPT as a cruisers spare so it contains everything EXCEPT the wheel adapter and J bolts. These can be purchased from CPT. It's in a Pelican box that came with the unit from CPT.

Having never needed it, I guess I never will. I will try to post some pictures in the next few days so you can see what it all is. It's located in Central Florida.

And yes, it's a really great piece of gear. My last offshore run was Ponce Inlet to Charleston. Downwind and downsea for three days, never touched the wheel after leaving the inlet except for course changes. Before that we did Whale Cay Inlet (Abacos) to Port Canaveral, two days, only made two course changes.

I would send back to CPT and let them rebuild it for you. They'll upgrade waterproof and repair --- the units are rock solid and worth the expense.

But to each his own.

There are two or three different CPT's and as the company has been owned by different owners over the years, some are better than others. Nice way of saying that there for a while quality wasn't so good.
I'd definitely call CPT and ask how to tell the differences and which ones to avoid.
I have one, meant it to be only as a back up to a real pilot, but it does everything I want it to, and if I buy a cruisers spare, anything that is likely to break can be replaced easily without tools to speak of.
I like KISS. But know from the beginning all it will do is hold a magnetic heading, it won't track anything and can't be interfaced into anything.

$1200 with the 18" ram. Works flawless. Has a second station, and the second station need a rebuild. Primary and system are perfect.

Re: Want to Buy CPT Autopilot

This is the CPT autopilot I have for sale. Its the "cruising kit" which is everything except the wheel adapter and the mounting bracket. Both are available from CPT.

I bought it as a spare - which is what CPT sold it as - but never needed it. It's been in storage for a few years and I will include some other stuff that I haven't used either - a remote switch, a belt, spare clutch pins, handle, and belt tensioner. And the installation/operation manual. Also the Pelican box in which it was packed for storing it as a spare.

Interestingly, my "old" CPT has never needed either a new belt or clutch pins. They are built tough.

Looking for $900. Would like to sell it locally in Central Florida so the buyer can see and feel it and pay cash...
