Re: SD 20 Lower Unit Sail Drives

thanks everyone for input .
I will not have the units welded too much risk
I am having the grounds checked on the boat as I think that may be the problem or I got struck by lightening.
Was hoping for a cheaper solution [did find one unit in Canada and working some details out ]
Great web site

Re: Wanted 2 SD 20 Lower Unit Sail Drives

WOW! Must be the season. I too need 2 new drives as ours look like an arm that has had the flesh stripped off it by a bear or something, can see shafts and gears.
Yanmar US has only 4 lower gear housings left, no upper housings left as of yesterday for SD20 and when they are gone that's it, only the newer SD25 is available. List on the lower housings are over 3K and doesn't include a new seal. I appealed to some folks I know and have rebuilt an engine with in the past in Cocoa, Fl. and for slightly more than list for the lower housing only, I'm getting the 25's with new seals, hardware and everything I need to replace mine.
The SD25 is more corrosion resistant and is a direct drop in replacement.
Charles, the guy in Montreal seems like a straight shooter but I have to replace mine on a low tide so I don't have time to fool around, am ordering new.
Good luck.
Dave

Should also mention that you should go to Yandina Marine Electronics website and there is a comprehensive list to check for stray current and galvanic corrosion as well as decent prices for an isolator.

Re: Wanted 2 SD 20 Lower Unit Sail Drives

Thanks everyone for the input I could not find complete lower unit so found 2 new and have ordered them 3200 each. There are still 2 more in the US.
Located in GA .
My understanding that there is a price increase coming --New price 4200 each. That is for the new SD25 which replaces the old SD20's.

And pay attention to the advice on installing a galvanic isolator.
