Re: Wanted: 38+ liveaboard sailboat, center cockpit, aft cabin

I'd recommend a Cabo Rico Tiburon 36 if you're set on a center cockpit. This is an above average quality boat that can be found in your price range. Of course at that price it will need work.

Especially old boats.
People forget that you have to pay moorage as well.
I found a way to beat the moorage cost. Had the boat truck to a place in the woods close to home and free.

It did add a few thousand for trucking and cranes and I still had to pay the yard for haul and launch.

The comment you'll have to kiss a lot of frogs is very appropriate. A $20K budge is very, very small for a 38' + center cockpit in decent shape but miracles do happen. Have the money ready and be patient and you might find a boat in decent structural shape with terrible cosmetics and a desperate owner (or sometimes desperate wife or family of a deceased owner).

hey I have a 42' project boat here in Costa Rica on the pacific coast.
1979 Ketch, sturdy Taiwanese costruction, long keel, center cockpit.
Rebuilt 100hp yanmar engine, and 70% of the work done.
If it might interest you let me know and I'll send you all the info and pics.

There are several O'day 37 CCs around the east coast at very reasonable prices..

It must be true because I saw it on an internet forum.

There are some CC's out there for cheap but they are walkover models. Oday 32/37?

ODay sailboats for sale by owner.
Sure so, 20k upfront, 30k additional along a one-year full time effort.

Oday are great boats. I sailed one :-)

Maybe we are sybarites, but I'd put an end to idealising a couple which sailed fantastically in a boat we would not accept sleeping in on hook
When too much is too much...

If not, please go back to wax cotton, hemp canvas and oil lamps, before speaking up back again on this topic

We don't wear Garibaldi red shirt since a long time...

Re: Wanted: 38+ liveaboard sailboat, center cockpit, aft cabin

Why center cockpit??? Unless you plan on long term guests or children, they waste the most commodious part of a boat which would be better utilized as other than cockpit/engine room.
