Re: WANTED Alubat Ovni 44' sloop

There were a couple for sale in French Polynesia last year. there is a broker there who has some listed from time to time.

have you checked the Ovni user web page they have a forsale section.

To be honest the difference you can get a new one for with the dollar to euro exchnage rate and what people want for a used one at the moment , the value willbe in new.

There is a broker in florida who is now the agent for Ovni in the US. They are super eager to sell a new one. I bet one who is serious would come out well ahead buying a new one.

Just a thought.

I have noticed the same thing about new boats from Europe. But we mustn't forget the cost of fitting out a boat. The cost of a new boat (hull, propulsion, basic interior and gear) can sometimes be half the cost of that smae boat properly fit out for long-range cruising.

I am most definitely NOT an expert on this -- I have never owned an Ovni -- but digging around for information over the years suggests that the build quality of the new boats is not as good as the old ones. That said, one thing you do notice about these boats is that they often get sailed very hard with minimal maintenance along the way (some say it's the French sailors, but I could not possibly comment!).
