Yeah, I was wondering about why they repowered with 75hp engines. Also note how the saildrives come out of the hull on an angle towards the inside of the boat.

Will the extra engine wieght be a significant cost on performance? What is the benefit?

I saw the boat sitting in the yard on Saturday when we picked up our boat.

Hi Therapy

My spouse and I are in a serious hunt for a live aboard blue water cruiser. Prefer a catamaran because of shallow draft, but will take a monohull if $$ are right.

I would not hesitate to go offshore in a well equipped and maintained Beneteau. But if I were planning a lot of serious voyaging in a monohull, I'd go with a boat more specifically designed for blue water sailing. Instead of a newer Beneteau, I'd look for an older Kelly Peterson 44 for example, and spend about the same money to get the boat completely ready to go, maybe less.

There is a 2000 Beneteau 505 with genny and air on Yachtworld that seems to be under contract with an asking price of 149k. I would be willing to go anywhere in that boat once I made sure everything was in good order. If I were closer to trigger pulling time, that would have been a tough one to pass up. With my family, I need 3 cabins to avoid making someone sleep "in the living room."

My family has a 2000 Beneteau First 47.7, and I would go anywhere in that boat as well. However, it comes up short as a world cruiser in that it drafts 7'7". But she is one tough boat and fast.
