So lets say you have a 1000 watt stero system in your car. You wanna know how many amps that its sucking down.

Amps = Watts / Volts

Since a car battery is 12 volts: 1000W / 12V = 83.3 Amps.

So, 800w/12v=66.66666666666 amps.
Thanks for the math lesson.......not needed, but where did you get the 800 watts? I looked at the website a few days ago and could find no literature for the off grid rv/marine units.

Never mind......I kept digging and found the specs, including fuel consumption.
thanks anyway though.

Re: Whisper Gen

Actually a 8Kw A.C. genset would give you at least 50 amps A.C. which would easily power DC chargers up to 400 amps. The Whisper Gen is cool but in no way is it comparable to the output of 8KW genset.

Do not confuse this with a 120v genny. You would need about an 8KW to produce the same amps.
Huh?

I think you are severely confused. 66 amps @ 12v is only 10% the power of 66 amps @ 120v.

Re: Whisper Gen

I was already corrected on my flawed math. I fell on my head that day and it still hurts so quit picking on me.

Re: Whisper Gen

Hi smith401- I debated about posting this, and I'm not trying to ruin your sale, but thought folks should be aware of the situation with WhisperGen (found this out while researching the possibility of purchasing your unit). The factory in Christchurch NZ was destroyed by the earthquake last year and there is no plans to rebuild and/or resume production of the generators (which is a shame). They seem like great units, and it appears like there is little on them to break, but when I enquired with the company about obtaining parts/service for WhisperGen units, this is the email I received:

FROM:
spares@offgridenergy.co.nz

Hi,

Currently I am supplying spare parts only. The factory no longer exists and off-grid units will not be manufactured any more, not now and not in the future.
There is no guarantee that parts will be available in the future.
I will help you if I can, but I would not recommend buying a second hand WhisperGen.

Where are you located?
Any owner names, yacht name or serial number? I might be able to see what the service history is on that unit.

Cheers,
Jan

OffGridEnergy Ltd.
New Zealand

So I hope you find a buyer for this neat unit, I just wanted to make sure everyone was fully informed..
