WTB: Cruising Catamaran - €100,000 Max

we are looking for a cruising cat around 40 ft (or bigger), ideally from a liveaboard owner. the more equipped for independence the better. ok to be a few years old, but no major repairs please. we are very flexible about the location, so any offers will be appreciated. you can contact us directly by mail: orleyflo@gmx.at ( orleyflo@gmx.at ).
looking forward to receiving tipps or offers from anywhere (-:

I'm afraid you will be disappointed. I just looked through the list at Yachtworld.com and your choices are very limited to boats smaller than 38 feet, or more than twenty years old. A well maintained twenty year old boat will be out of your price range.

These difficult economic times have not had more than ten of fifteen percent impact on cruising catamaran prices.

Soooo: Go smaller and go sooner!

hey sandy,

thanks a lo for your reply. i went through yachtworld and other listings as well and i think your are basically right.
but - there are for example a lot of prout snowgoose 37 around, and i think there is a chance to find one from the late 80ies that is in good shape and well equipped. it is a little small but should be enough for us and has a very good reputation.

please let me know if you think that i am wrong about this.

Hi flobro,

Here is some information and pictures of a 40' Woods catamaran, built in 1994 and lying Cape Town well within your budget:

Hi flobro,

Just to let you know that bue Woods 40 is also listed with two other brokers, one with an asking prize of ZAR 875.000 so I'm sure there is room for some hard bargaining.

Another Woods 40, though with an asking price of ZAR 1.500.000, can be found at
Rhea 40 yacht David Abromowitz Yacht Brokers.
Have seen this cat from the outside, looks well cared for, with a recent overhaul to one engine (know it because she came in to be hauled out and I talked a bit with the owner).

Thought you might be interested to compare the two.

Regards
Roger

A custom, plans-built or one-off boat may very well suit your needs, FLOBRO, and be within your budget. But in no case, production boat or otherwise, should you consider a boat without a survey, from a surveyor YOU pick, (not the broker's suggestion) who speaks your language, will go up the mast to inspect the rigging, and can evaluate the model of engines installed beyond just starting them up and listening to them!

An older Prout that has been truly well maintained (after 25 years, everything will have been replaced) won't be cheap!
