Re: WTB: Push-in Fuel Line Swivel Fittings 5/16

The used part (elbow) with brownish goop is the complementary one I also ruined (it went into the female adapter). Is that 37deg or 45deg, how can you easily tell? Thanks again!!

thanks again!
Just looked in catalog & see they are available in both 45 & JIC.
Mine were 45 & I made an assumption.
Never make assumptions!

I don't know of any markings myself but I can tell them apart by sight cause learned the hard way.

Fraid you are on your own-take the elbow with you.

I think you can screw the 2 (45 & JIC37) together,but they won't seal properly-been awhile.

Don't use teflon tape or anything else on the flare (45 or JIC) portion of fitting. They are metal to metal machine fit.
Teflon is OK on the tapered pipe threads, though you have to be careful to keep it back a thread or two to prevent peices of tape getting in fuel system-very bad news.
Better to use Permatex? teflon pipe dope SPARINGLY.

What I was saying is get a fitting with a barb on the end, screw it in, then slide the hose over the barb and secure with a clamp, You don't attach the hose first, so the fitting doesn't have to swivel.
If what it attaches to is what I think it is and it's an electric pump, then of course that hose is under no pressure, a slight vacuum, but no pressure, you don't need a high pressure hydraulic type of fitting, although it doesn't hurt if you do.

You are correct-a swivel fitting is not absolutely necessary.
You can always loosen the hose clamp & wiggle & twist the hose off the barb.
In my experience.that usually results in me being sprayed with diesel, either from pressure(sometimes pressure that is not supposed to be there) or from the hose popping off the barb & whipping me

Much nicer to have a swivel on both ends of fuel & hydraulic hoses IMHO
Quarter turn with a wrench while catching drips with rag, etc.
$10 well spent.

Re: WTB: Push-in Fuel Line Swivel Fittings 5/16

The way I was taught to tell the difference is easy with the male parts, impossible with the female. Get one 45 male flare fitting that you know is 45 (most auto parts flares are) and mark it, keep it in your tool box.

Take your unknown male flare and place it on a flat surface, then take your known 45 and touch it up to the unknown in a right-angle configuration. If the two surfaces are parallel and you have a right angle you have a 45 flare, if your angle between the fittings is not 90 you have a 37. You can use a triangle, piece of paper, pretty much anything with a right angle if you think your eyes might be getting fooled, but the 8 degree difference is pretty easy to see by eye.

Take them to your local Parker store. They'll sort you out.
