WTB: Saye's Rig Self Steering Wind Vane System

Looking for a Saye's Rig

Our 30 ton 50' ferro ketch needs one bad!

Know of any laying around?

Trying to save over buying new from Scanmar.

Thanks!

You could make your own with a Saye's Rig type paddle coupled to a horizontal axis vane - works well and pretty powerful.

Richard

Scanmar's own patented Saye's bronze servo unit looks like something way more slick than I could ever home build. I can Build a vane and paddle but I need one of those fancy gear bronze gear box thingees.

Crunk, You are correct, you can't build one of these by yourself. We had a sayes rig on our boat and sailed with it from Maine to the Caribbean and baba. Theirs is a massively built piece of equipment. The paddle is quite heavy and the bronze castings are robust. Keep looking, try ebay, google them. They come up for resale occasionally.

Re: WTB: Saye's Rig Self Steering Wind Vane System

They must have redesigned the vane. Mine started off like this:http://www.selfsteer.com/products/sayes/ .
I got rid of the wind vane part and drove it with a horizontal axis vane which I constructed by loosely following plans in Belcher's book.

Regards,
Richard
