Yanmar 3GM-30F

Hi John,

yes it is a 3GM-30F.......fresh water cooled. Located in New Hampshire. Came from an Able 32 (Chuck Paine) 12000# boat. Transmission/gear included.

I am currently in Asia. Will have limited access to the net for awhile......but will check in with the forum when I can.

Still interested

From a Paine Able 32 to a Paine Sarah 32, maybe? Plenty of time for slow internet, I wouldn't need it until probably June. Could I ask the reason for replacing it? Thanks

John,

I come from a background of engineless cruising.......... I still lean in that direction. I am in the process of altering this boat to suit our needs in terms of long range cruising and storage criteria. It is simply a personal choice.

The motor will be removed and sold to finance further alterations and renovations. The motor runs great. It will need a clean up and perhaps a bit of paint. Simple as that.

Further questions

I am a little nervous when you say the engine needs clean up and paint, having seen too many that are covered in thick rust. If you have a picture or so that would be really helpful. Basically clean, needs a quick cleanup and a little paint touch up, I am still very interested. Covered in a lot of rust and leaking oil, not very interested. I hope it is the former. I would hope to be able to pick this up in May or June, could send a deposit before that, and would hope to be able to hear it run when picking it up. If already out of the boat, not a problem, I have lots of experience running these things sitting on the floor.

John,

Just back from Asia. Will take a few days to settle in. I will do my best to get a picture e-mailed to you. Please provide an e-mail address and I will send it to you directly.

The engine does need a clean up. There is definitely no "thick" rust. A bit of rust on the fly wheel and air intake. Both made of "stamped steel" and therefore susceptible to rust.......etc. There are no oil leaks. Does not smoke. Does not consume oil. Regularly serviced. 1200 plus hours are accurate.

I have e-mailed you directly via the forum site. Curious whether you have gotten those e-mails??

Re: Yanmar 3GM

John,

Just posted a few pictures....................

The engine is unbolted and prepped for removal. As mentioned there is a bit of rust on the mounts, flywheel, and air intake. Block needs a good clean up, but otherwise in pretty good shape. There is no oil pan below the engine............and you can see that there is no oil "leaking" from the block.

E-mail me directly if you have any further questions.

Re: Yanmar 3GM

Sounding good, a little surface rust on the sheet metal is pretty normal, I have some already on a one year old installation that is quite dry. My current email is john(dot)peinert(at)gmail(dot)com. Will look for the pics, we are headed for the out islands tomorrow and it may take a couple days for me to respond. Hard to find wireless connection when you are anchored off an isolated beach surrounded by coral heads teeming with fish and lobster. I did not get any of your emails, my email with the board may be out of date.
