Atlantic Crossing - SC, West to East, and Back

I have a Southern Cross 31 I 'm hoping to sail the Atlantic with. I need the help of someone with offshore experience to go with. Hoping to sail sometime in the spring of 2012. A female companion would be high on the list. I'm 57, retired, not rich, not poor. I can pay my way with some left over,to take care of the boat.I would like to see as much of the world as I can with the rest of my life, alone is good ,with a good lady would be far better. Thanks Jim

Maybe I'm just confused...don't you have to go EAST from S.C. to cross the Atlantic?
