Re: Captain, Crew for Hunter 450, Panama City to Fiji

Is this still an active proposal. I have 50,000 plus ocean miles, have done the trip (Mass to NZ in 2005) and am interested in delivering the boat for expenses only.

if you decide to sail it with crew i would be interested in joining you on a more relaxed pace than a typical delivery schedule.

I'm retired and live near Panama City. I'm looking for something to do and would be interested in helping someone crew it. HMU if you're still looking.

This would suit someone with a lot of open ocean sailing experience who wants to do the South Pacific but doesn't own a boat. We would be willing to let you have the boat for a reasonable amount of time in exchange for sailing her to Fiji early in 2013.
The other option we are looking at is to hire a professional crew to just sail the boat more or less directly to Fiji with minimum stops.

This is all dependant on the opinions I get here as to the wisdom of sailing a Hunter 450 Passage on this long a voyage .
Thanks
Well its mainly downwind from the Galapagos Islands... winds lightish or not to bad till the SPCZ then it can get squally and gusty..
Don't see it being a problem... unless you have 3000litres tankage above the waterline...lol

Have you left yet? I could see leaving in may.. To Hawaii, then south after June . Avoid hurricane/typhoon/cyclone season in N and S at all cost.

Re: Captain, Crew for Hunter 450, Panama City to Fiji

Hi Guys
Deal fell through , no boat , no trip , back to a shity 12 hour day.
still looking for a 45' and up post 1995 model, voyage capable sailboat
for under 100k.
I am trying to do the almost impossible, buy a boat in the USA do the trip and resell it in Australia without losing my shirt.

Before you tell me what a stupid idea this is i did the same crossing SF to SYD via Hawaii 3 years ago and sold the boat for a modest loss (5k, should have held out) .
But going via Hawaii we missed out on Galapogos and Tahiti, so we are back again looking for an east coast boat.
Thanks
DC

The 15 yr old rig, you might also have some issues there... get it checked out.

please contact me to delivery yacht.
I find a satisfactory solution for you

Skip the East coast and head for the Carib islands... check out Moorings and Sunsail... also brokers in St Martin, Martinique etc where you'll find boats set up for oceans deserted by owners who thought they were up to the 'dream' but became sick of the reality...
Good Luck with the search..
And if you get stuck gimme a shout... my profile on CF will give any info relevant

Re: Captain, Crew for Hunter 450, Panama City to Fiji

I have a 97 450 passage and just completing refit. New NorthSails will arrive Feb 22nd then she is ready to cruise.

Are you looking to purchase? I will sell for $100k and then stay on as captain to go whenever you would like. Call me with ideas.
