Delivery - Canada to La Paz

I am delivering a 38' Fountain catamaran from Victoria BC to La Paz Mex. That's right, a rare downwind delivery through paradise. Might be chilly at the start but we finish in the tropics as we cruise the entire W coast of the US and Baja. I fly in my primary crew member. We are looking for crew number 3 to help with watches. You fly yourself in and do the trip for the offshore miles and experience. We would depart Monday or Tuesday (1st or 2nd). We are looking at less than 3 weeks - sail, stops and flights.

Gordon and Colin, thanks for checking in. A skipper we use for our charters was able to get time off so he will be our third. Hope to see you guys on a future trip.

"We would depart Monday or Tuesday (1st or 2nd). We are looking at less than 3 weeks"

Looks like a great time to be heading south along the Washington/Oregon coast (477 NM from Cape Flattery to Cape Mendocino where you head a little more E of ESE)

The sailing route along the Washington/Oregon Coast is SSE

Washington Coast out to 60 NMN

THU...SE WIND 10 TO 15 KT WITH GUSTS TO 20 KT. WIND WAVES
4 FT. SW SWELL 4 FT. RAIN.
.THU NIGHT...S WIND 25 TO 30 KT...EASING TO 20 TO 25 KT AFTER
MIDNIGHT. WIND WAVES 8 FT...SUBSIDING TO 6 FT AFTER MIDNIGHT.
SW SWELL 7 FT. RAIN.
.FRI...S WIND 20 TO 25 KT. COMBINED SEAS 12 FT.

Oregon Coast out to 60 NM

THU...S WIND 10 TO 15 KT...BECOMING SE 20 TO 25 KT WITH GUSTS
TO 30 KT IN THE AFTERNOON. WIND WAVES 3 FT... BUILDING TO 7 FT
IN THE AFTERNOON. SW SWELL 5 FT. RAIN.
.THU NIGHT...S WIND 25 TO 30 KT...EASING TO 20 TO 25 KT AFTER
MIDNIGHT. WIND WAVES 8 FT...SUBSIDING TO 6 FT AFTER MIDNIGHT.
SW SWELL 7 FT. RAIN.
.FRI...SW WIND 20 TO 25 KT. WIND WAVES 7 FT. W SWELL 9 FT.
.SAT...SW WIND 20 TO 25 KT. WIND WAVES 6 FT. W SWELL 14 FT.

South Oregon coast to Cape Mendocino

.WED NIGHT...S WINDS 5 TO 10 KT. WAVES...SW 6 FT AT 9 SECONDS.
.THU...S WINDS 15 TO 25 KT. WAVES...SW 10 FT AT 8 SECONDS.
.FRI...S WINDS 15 TO 25 KT. WAVES...SW 10 FT AT 9 SECONDS...AND
W 8 FT AT 18 SECONDS.

The thing about the Washington and Oregon coast is ALL the harbors close in SW and S winds due to rough bars. Once out there it is pretty tough to duck for cover.

Hope Capt Woody gives us a trip report!

Re: Delivery - Canada to La Paz

Good wx report. Thank you for that. Yep, I've been keeping an eye on it. There are boats that you can make reasonable progress in that wx but not this one. We'll 'pull in somewheres ... ' (Capt. Ron) and wait. We don't like to wait and will jump back out there as it is subsiding, get the most out of the next window.
