Re: Everett WA to Kodiak AK

Looks like you have a few people to talk to. I would caution about hiring anyone without high latitude experience. The sea just doesn't act the same way up here. Best would be someone who has crossed the gulf many times, and does not have that wild look in his eye....

Re: Everett WA to Kodiak AK

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and questions, here is some more information about the boat:

The boat is 36ft on deck with a LOA of 41ft. She was designed and built, between 1951-1953, for the assistant president of the Albina shipyards. She has a wood hull and a steel deck. Her beam is 11 ft and her draft is 4.5 ft and she carries 9000lbs of lead ballast. Gross weight is 12 tonnes.
Engine is a 55hp Yanmer diesel, I do not have a picture of the engine.

Navigation Equipment on Board:
Fathometer Furuno FCV665, Raytheon D250 Radios Uniden VHF, Horizon VHF, ICOM IC- M710 VHF Auto Pilot Autohelm 2000 Radar Furuno GPS Raymarine A60 Additional Electronics Signet Knot Log Compasses Danforth with 6" card

Bilge pumps:
two electric automatic bilge pumps, cockpit mounted hand bilge pump and a
massive emergency hand bilge pump mounted on a plank for a
real issue.

Safety equipment:
Four person inflatable life raft, life sling, u ring, safety harness, life vests, flares, fire extinquishers, E-PIRB.

The mainsail has three reef points,it is older, but in still good condition and I have a spare.

There is an inflatable dingy a Zebec p240n with a 6hp yahama outboard.

The anchor is a 33lb bruce anchor wth 250ft of 3/8"chain. The spare anchor is a Danforth.

When I figure out how to post pictures I'll post some.

_______________

Another bit of advice?

Let the Delivery Skipper be the skipper, and YOU be the cook.

I hope you find this helpful. Good luck on your voyage!

Re: Everett WA to Kodiak AK

For what it is worth, I would not recommend trying to do the Inside Passage at Night un less you have done it several times during the daylight, no matter what you might have in the way of electronics. I have seen errors by up to 5 miles with GPS and a couple of miles with radar... With those kinds of error and false readings, you can find yourself on a rock or island or arguing with a deadhead. And for comparing Alaska to the Gulf and the Caribbean, there is NO similarity, and to think there is you are looking for trouble. I have sailed both places. If you still plan on rushing this trip be sure you have your Dry Suit on as you will only last about 15 minutes in the water... Good Luck...

Re: Everett WA to Kodiak AK

I just forwarded your post to the captain from Juneau, Cap't AL, who brought my Formosa 46 from Juneau to Seward this past year. Great guy. Just he and his wife.

Few years ago my co-worker brought his 47 footer from WA to Seward, just him, his wife, and 2 daughters.

Looking forward to getting down to Kodiak, maybe next year. I'll look for you.

Great lookin' boat. Just keep the water on the outside and you'll be safe I'm sure.
