Thumbs up Looking to crew this winter, anywhere.

Hi,
I'm an inexperienced sailor looking to learn the ropes. I would like to begin to acquire the years of skills and experience needed to sail my own boat across the world's oceans. I work as forest firefighter so i have 3-4 months off each winter...this schedule would seem to lend itself perfectly to a cruising lifestyle. The only thing missing is my skills! So I'm looking for a starting point...
A bit about me, 30yrs old, university grad, quick learner, honest, no smoking, clean, quiet, hard working, can offer skills in carpentry, general maint., and cooking. certified in CPR, medical First Responder (and of course, firefighting). marginal guitar skills. scuba+surf.
I live in California, but I usually travel and explore the world (on land) in the winter so i can meet up with a boat nearly anywhere. I am available approx. mid january 09 to mid april 09.
Any responses or leads would be much appreciated!
thanks,
Don

Greetings, and WELCOME aboard Don.
As you indicate, your schedule would seem to lend itself perfectly to a cruising lifestyle; and tho' you may be just starting out as a sailor/cruiser, you already possess some very valuable skills.

If you want racing, you might consider taking part in next year's Rolex Middle Sea Race. There is a message board section so you can be a crew in next year's race.
