Crew Available: Looking to join a crew in mid-late summer 2014

I am a 27 year old American sailing novice who is looking to join a crew in the mid to late summer of this year (could be earlier with enough notice). I am based in New York City, so departure from anywhere in the east coast USA is easy enough. Though I'm also willing to fly to any departure location as well!

I've got essentially nothing in terms of sailing experience. I have gone on a few trips on a 40' sailboat in the upper Hudson (near the Tappan Zee) though I have never done an overnight or multi-day. All of that to say, I am more than willing to learn everything possible and take on all of the less than desirable duties.

I am open to hearing about ANY trip, no matter the length. I am considering a 'career break' so if the right 6 month trip comes along, I'd be thrilled to jump on board. I've spent too much time in the past years worrying about the world from an office (at a large international organization on Manhattan's east side ) and not even time seeing it. It's time that changes.

To add, if anyone is looking for a hand, or willing to let me gain some experience, in the NJ/NY/CT area during weekends, please let me know! Any other tips or advice also greatly appreciated.

Hi Eric,

I sail out of Haverstraw every weekend, and some weekdays, during the season. Some time in June, maybe early July, I'll head out into Long Island Sound for a trip which may reach as far as Martha's Vineyard this season. It will be very much a leisurely cruise, with destinations dictated mostly by the wind and no fixed schedule. I will be on a mooring or at anchor every night, since the dog will need a walk, and I tend to prefer restaurant food to my own cooking. Have older 68’ steel trawler-type in Newburyport, MA. In June, wife & I will be gunkholing north through Maine, around Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, then up St. Lawrence to Quebec or further until it gets cold in Sept. Looking for crew to share maintenance, repairs and operation, while exploring sights and towns. Flexible schedule and itinerary. Experience not necessary; optimism required.
