My name is Theo Blue Bates and I am an addict. Last summer on vacation in San Diego I sailed a Hobie Cat on Mission Bay. The instant the wind filled the sails I was hooked. I returned home to Northern Utah and bought SV Somewhere aka The Junk Yard Cat, a Hobie 16, for $200 and from there i had eyes of crewing bigger boats on bigger water. Learning as I go.

About me: I’m 18. I’ve earned my sailing kitty by heckling thousands of people from the window of a World’s Best Corndogs food truck. Adventure is in my blood: whitewater rafting, fly fishing, snowboarding, motorcycling, Hobie sailing, and hammocking. Incidentally, I founded the largest high school hammocking club in the US.

I am the captain of the Cache Valley water polo team, lettered in wrestling, won trophies in debate, won the audience choice award at the Moonshiver Film Festival.

Hobie sailing hardly qualifies me as any sort of seaworthy sailor, but I’m a quick learner and I bring the intangibles. I’m a good cook. I’m good with tools and intuitive with technology. I very cool under pressure. I’m clean, confident, and considerate. I work hard, laugh a lot, smell good, and end up great friends with everybody meet. I’d love to crew on your boat!
