PORTLAND/HARPSWELL AREA

looking for adult crew, male or female, novice or experienced, to sail with me in the Portland/Harpswell, Maine area. Both daysailing and short term (ie weekends). Boat is a 42 foot cutter equipped with everything. Should be in good health and good cheer. No smokers please!

Re: PORTLAND/HARPSWELL AREA

Used to live "down East" (Sebago & Winterport), but am "out West" now. My suggestion is this: I'm planning to rent a 30' sometime like August or so, to make a loop out to Monhegan and Matinicus and loop back for a dinner in Camden or Rockport. Depending on things, I was planning that solo, but if a tour like that (probably a full week) might sound interesting, we could discuss my joining your sail and doing that route together. I know you were looking for regular sailors, but I thought I'd check if an outing like this might be to your liking, & get a little ways off shore. Are you docked in Portland or Harpswell?
I was originally planning to leave out of Brooksville, Bucks Harbor Marine.
I'd look forward to discussing further.

Re: PORTLAND/HARPSWELL AREA

Thanks--I have done that trip before but for my summer cruise I am planning on going down to Little Harbor, N.H., Glouster, Cape Cod Canal, and Newport. I will be doing that with my son and his family. Really looking for someone that wants to day sail and perhaps overnight in the Harpswell/Booth Bay areas. Thanks for your interest and enjoy your trip. Sailalong

OK then, thanks for the reply and update - so happy sailing. Since you've sailed that area of Casco Bay & Monhegan, any comments & insights you might share will be greatly appreciated. Since there are a few different cruising guides, let me know if you have a favorite guide to point me toward.

Re: PORTLAND/HARPSWELL AREA

I like "A Cruising Guide To The Maine Coast" by Hank & Jan Taft. Its a wealth of information. I usually engage a fisherman or lobster man from the area in conversation and have found them to be very helpful. Also the anchorages can be pretty rolly so at times I have used a steadying sail to calm the motion.

Re: PORTLAND/HARPSWELL AREA

Hello,
I saw your post for crew and would love to be considered. I have some sailing experience, mostly pond sailing on my daysailer. I took the ASA basic keelboat in South Portland last year, and I'm extremely eager to get out on the water. Sailed the daysailer quite a bit last fall in Casco Bay, and I'm currently refitting an old Kells 23. So I'm a bit short on experience I suppose, but very willing to help and learn. Feel free to email me for more info.
Thanks!
Sean
