Seeking transatlantic passage in August

I'm a Swiss grad student, highly motivated to make my way to a university exchange in the US by boat. Therefore seeking passage across the Atlantic in August (Need to embark before August 28). No sailing experience, but generally adventure-proven through extensive travels, including backpacking and being a long-time boy scout. Unlikely seasick, proven during a rough passage of the Fox Strait (NZ) by Ferry.
I would be thrilled to hear of any opportunities!

Fox strait in NZ ?

Do you mean Foveaux Strait (Bluff to Stewart Island) or Cook Strait (Wellington to Picton)

Your chances of a positive result would increase greatly if you started with something a little less grand. Portsmouth - Brittany or Gibraltar - Mallorca. Look for something around 2 nights at sea.

Exactly. Crossing this part of the ocean in August puts you right in the middle of hurricane season. Even if you found someone crossing at that time it might not be a good idea to go along.

Hi, Contact the Catamaran firms in France, ie Fountaine Pajot, Lagoon, etc.
They will have new boats sailing to Annapolis or Florida then for the Fall boat shows on the East coast. Usually they are contracted skippers and occasionally need another crew person... its at best a 30 day trip, so make sure you have your sea legs.

Re: Seeking transatlantic passage in August

Yes , as the others have said.. I would be highly cautious going aboard anyone's boat for a trans Atlantic crossing in the upcoming worst part of Hurricane season.. there is no way to out run it... just my thoughts
