Sept 2011 Voyage from Maine to Florida

I'm looking for an individual to help me (health issues) to sail my boat from Maine to east coast Florida. I'm in no particular hurry to get south but need to get out of the north before I get cold. I have a 1979 Cal 2-35 and I'm planning on leaving near the middle of September.

This is a non-paying position

Experience is less important than honesty.

Harold---September is a little early to be headed to Florida unless you plan on taking a good while as we can have pretty good storms here thorugh mid- to late October. We got the poop kicked out of us in hurricane Gordon in late October in '94 and I would not want anyone to repeat or have a similar experience!

FWIW...

I am planning on waiting out hurricane season, but due to the fact that I can't stand cold weather, I need to leave before it gets too chilly

Capt Harold
I'm another old fart, I've helped from MD to Conn on a Tartan 30
I've helped on a 41 Dickerson Md to FL (twice) plus my own 37 Endeavour Md to Fl
we have always left Cambridge Md about mid/end september
Hurricanes give 5 days warning, so always time to "hide"
Enjoy the ICW with nice days outside, not interested in overnighters and
fast trips, enjoy life

Re: Sept 2011 Voyage from Maine to Florida

Marty,

Its good to know that I will have around 5 days to hide from a hurricane. After talking things over with my 1st mate I think we will leave Maine on the 15th of September. I also plan on going outside as much as possible as there are some shallow areas in the ICW ( I draw almost 7 feet). Being in no hurry I plan on getting to FL after hurricane season.

Re: Sept 2011 Voyage from Maine to Florida

Hello! If you plan on leaving a bit later (the start of October or so) my boyfriend and I would love to come along! We're from Portland and planning on going half way around the world, a trip to Florida would help so much! (207) 907 5006 We'd love to hear from you.
