Let me guess, aged 28 and a Libran ?.

Re: Swedish girl looking for Transatlantic crew opportunities in Dec 2012

Mei, December even January is the right time to cross westwards from teh Canaries. The trades have generally established and the hurricane season is over in the Carribean. Unfortunately you just missed the departure of the ARC , which can be a big opportunity for dockrats, but there is still a lot of NARCs that go a bit later. its a suck it and see. otherwise start sooner next year or consider an eastwards crossing, ( may-July) by seeking a crew spot.

Dont forget there plenty of other long trips , Sweden south, UK to teh Med, etc that will start up in the spring.

I skippered across a few times, There are lots of "dock rats" in Las Palmas on Grand Canaria, at this time of the year, ( Thats the centre of the action) . Its probably too late to set something up in advance, as generally most boats will be crewed by now. SO thats leaves chancing your arm and turning up and competing with all the other dock rats.

If you have no sailing experience, you may find it difficult and as an attractive girl, some crews/ skippers may take you as potential girlfriend fodder. If you are confident in handling that situation , then who cares, you get the sail. Your confidence and other activities will stand to you as will your happiness to cook.

So if you can spare the time, get your self to Las Palmas, at the very least yourll get a week or two of good weather.

Dont get on any boat that you get a bad vibe from. Interview them as much as they interview you.

Alternatively you can register on some of the crew sites, but at this stage its late for a formal crew finder position.

Mei, I apologize for that kind of language on here. This was uncalled for.

Mei, ignore all the galahs here. If you decide to catch a ride this December have a fabulous adventure. You seem sensible enough not to need too many tips on boat and skipper selection. Post a few photos on your return. It would round this thread off beautifully .

PS Yes lads, perfect women do exist!

My suggestion would be if you post somewhere else, like sailnet for example, to just not mention the pole dancing. It's not really pertinent, is it?

For example, I love Doctor Who, but I'd probably leave it off my sailing resume. Just saying.

......
It shows a very high fitness level. It is becoming a popular exercise and need not have any sexual connotations. Honestly, do all men have such a one track mind? (Never mind, don't answer that LOL).

I have even seen pole dancing for Jesus classes!

However, anyone who can insist that it has no sexual connotations is, at best, naive, as those connotations are both historical and symbolic.

If there's one thing this thread proves beyond any doubt, it's that pole dancing DOES have some connotations!

I think the confusion here may be cultural. I believe in Europe pole dancing is viewed entirely differently than in the US. It's so legitimate over there that there is even a push to have it become an Olympic sport. It's just not seen that way by most in the states. They view it as a sport similar to figure skating or the like, most here view it as an activity for strippers.

That's a big pile of spent brass there Mei. Maybe some of the cruisers here who are concerned about piracy and security issues should be recruiting you as crew for the Red Sea run?

Nice pic's.. I am sure you will find a ride... I would go to the Canaries and hang out. Bet you find one....

If you get to sail past Punta Cana / Cap Cana in the DR. Stop in and I will hand you a "fishing" pole with a Marlin on the end of it...!!!
