Mankind sails since 6000years

Sailing is easiest part

Knowing the yacht is difficult

Being able to stay at sea, and seamanship, is an art in itself

PS racing!? It is worst way to learn imo

A racer coaching a beginner is not a serious one
Racers have one goal, they don't mind about the boat and the gear
And, racing, you see only your 5% of duties, yours only.

It reminds me of America's Cup coffee grinders, who didn't see the waves... now It is illegal, as much as removing hatches and anchors. (To name a few of racing stupidities...)
