Nanki-Poo

Dude! If ya was a chick, and asked this, you would probably have a 100 replys, with 2x that many in PM offers for crew. These salty old bastards are all about a split-tail crew members, and would fall over themselves trying to get you on their dinghy. Wish ya well getting some boat time in Lauderdale. Best for you to hit a marina dock, with a sign and 12 pack of cold ones!

ps. I had to go buy a friggin boat!

C'mon guys, give the guy a break....

It was pretty obvious that the post was intended to be funny and facetious, and an attempt to make himself seem more personable as potential crew. Maybe part of the problem is that most american's didn't "get" the dry british humor.

If my boat wasn't already put away for the season the ad sounds like someone I'd like to have aboard. Afterall, you can always teach sailing skills, but not personality.

One of the faults of the written word is that it cannot convey the difference between a humorous or a serious tone of voice.

This is because we Americans live in a box.
I dont even know who is the president, good thing I dont live in the UK because I cant figure what the fuss is about Charles or his kids.
My best friend here in Key West is from Peckam, he explains some of that stuff to me but I may as well try to learn Russian.
But, thanks for reminding me about the difference in our humors, I forget sometimes.
Which reminds me, I never did get Benny Hill either but my father laughed alot when he was drinking and was watching him on the tube.

Well my box is pretty big. I still don't know who our president is and I sincerely doubt most that voted for him really know who he is either. (That's US humor for the Brits) I still don't laugh much at Benny Hill, don't care for Dr.Who or if Horten hears him. Monty Python makes me yawn and I don't get their food. But I get Emma Peel just fine.

Re: WOT? - no one want's free crew ???

As a yacht owner myself as well as a willing crew member I can understand both sides of the coin. If and when I sail my yacht back to either Australia or Scotland, I would love to have extra hands and eyes to make my trip that much safer and smoother. I can also understand his point of not that much cash involved as if the boat owner was going there anyway, why would he contribute to the fuel?? The constant work is paying for the room and food, in my opinion. I can see if you had to make a huge detour for "HIS" desired destination, then absolutely, he should pay for the fuel and extras.. But, if the owner is going there anyway, the crew should really only pay for his extra drinks, alcohol and any extra "THEY" want..

Again, that is purely my opinion as I've engaged in both scenarios.. I've even had an offer to come along but contribute $500 per week which would include, room, food, boat wear and tear, etc.. I was like, WTF, I didn't ask to charter the boat.. I was helping you bring it back home.. I also agree that I will always pay for my own transportation to and from the various points, etc...

Herein lies the secret. Pretend to be a chick and by the time you turn up on the dock and turn out to be 40 and balding its too late

ps
I have nothing against hair loss. I feel for you.
