Just what part of this bothered you? "If you really want to crew, offer to help a boat owner working on his own boat in a boatyard. Maybe you'll be offered a ride when someone gets to know you and appreciate your sense of humor. Or go to a yacht club and offer to crew on low level race boats. Shout the other guys beers."

And yes, you're right, I could not see the twinkle in your eye as you wrote, or the corners of your mouth turning up, when you wrote. I did not mean to offend you. On the other hand, I'm curmudgeonly, and not over-fond of freeloaders, so the written attempt at humor missed me and pinged on that trait. Sorry if what I wrote bothered you.

It was pretty obvious that the post was intended to be funny and facetious, and an attempt to make himself seem more personable as potential crew. Maybe part of the problem is that most american's didn't "get" the dry british humor.
