Re: 400S2 Washing Machine. ???????????

A quick question for anyone with a 400S2. I notice ours doesn't have a bilge pump alarm. No alarm when it is manually activated, or when it is automatically activated. Is this the same for others?
Thanks
Monte

Re: 400S2 Washing Machine. ???????????

We just outfitted our Lagoon 39 w/ a separate compact washer and compact dryer in the owner's cabin by just replacing the king with a double mattress. Dryer vent hose strapped into a modified flyscreen over the hatch. Works great would do it again in a second, only hard part was finding the 67cm high (vs usual 82cm high) compact units.

I'll say nothing of the 1/2 size Bosch dishwasher above the microwave...

Brent

Re: 400S2 Washing Machine. ???????????

Hi Monte

No bilge alarms on my 400 #45. Light comes on at the electric panel when it turns on. An alarm would seem to make sense.

Cheers
Bruce

Re: 400S2 Washing Machine. ???????????

Great feedback;
I now have the spot and the measurements for the washing machine.

Living in Canada is something I am blessed to be able to do.
Healthcare, massive landscapes, small population, economy that seems to always rival the world stage.
All these things that make Canada so special yet I cannot purchase a small washing machine. We here in Canada think big and have not yet figured out how to relish efficiency, our cars and trucks are mostly big, homes the same.

I guess I will have to research more and take my time.
There are some good ideas out there and thanks for sharing.

Bruce; I come from a family that owned and sold sailboats, as for having the survey done now, no, if I have one at all it would be before warranty expired and most likely not at all. I have about 10hrs on the boat with it torn all apart, there are lots of things that I scratched my head over but in the end I realize I bought a Chev not a Bentley. Some things were done very well others not so good.
All in all I ended up making the purchase and like most things I buy I usually do not look back.

I will not be adding the washing machine for a while so I have time on my side, as for finding the right machine I am sure with time on my side that to will materialize for me.

Re: 400S2 Washing Machine. ???????????

My 400 S2 does not have a bilge alarm. I have a friend who recently bought a 380 and it does.

I think lack of a bilge alarm is a deficiency because I think it is important to know as soon as the bilge pump goes off and in a lot of situations you may not hear the pump. I plan to fit one soon.

An update on the washing machine issue.
An issue for me, just a read for most of you.
Well, the microwave is getting removed and a Miele Compact will take its place, unconventional for sure and an almost perfect solution for me.
I will try to add photo.
Scott

On the left, the smaller cabinet houses the microwave.
It's coming out and the Miele will sit on the pantry.
Yes it fits and no it will not look that great, I plan to have a cover made of some sort.
The plumbing and electrical are right there and a drain will not be a problem.

Re: 400S2 Washing Machine. ???????????

Hi Scottster,

I recently stumbled over an aesthetically pleasing alternative:
Daewoo DWD CV-701-PC

It a small wall-mounted washer one could fit into a locker, companion way or head. Capacity is low at only 3kg and it spins at only 700rpm.
The dry weight of the machine is only 16kg.

It's made by Daewoo but also sold as Electrolux and maybe other names. Price is around 450 Euro here.

Cheers,
Rabbi

Re: 400S2 Washing Machine. ???????????

Hi Rabbi

That looks very cool, I have seen it before but could not find a supplier in Canada.
Off the top of my head I cannot picture a good spot, that said I am not on the boat and will do the walk about with it in mind.
Thanks
Scott

Re: 400S2 Washing Machine. ???????????

Looks like a tight fit..
However you have a laundry in your stylish living room. Not an estetical improvement in my view. Keep in mind it will spill water from time to time and won't look so shiny in a couple of years.

I Would have gone for something that could either be hidden somewhere like the Dasewoo one shown above, or a camping washing machine that could be stored out of sight when not in use. That is what we used when we cruised for a year.
But this time my wife said that we do laundry so rarely that is not a big deal to collect shirts and pants for a few weeks and do it in a public laundry. Also supported by the fact that we now have a much smaller boat and try to keep her light.

any idea how heavy your boat is now - over the limit ?

I just checked today that max load is 3.6T, totalling 14.2T.

No idea what empty 10.6 T includes.

i am thinking if boat weights above limit, bridgedeck flexing will increase in bad weather, and possibly cause structural cracks and/or losing mast. Spreaders pull stronger as flex larger and that can bring mast down. Twisted mast should help here and compensate some of the force.

On the other side, bridgedeck is large and strong. Other cats I sailed spreaders flop so lots of flexing. L400 feels more like a tank
