L450 Main Sail Removal

I need to remove the Incidense main sail and while I have a pretty good idea of the approach I'll take, its not clear to me as to how to separate the mast cars from the battens. The cars will remain on the mast track. Has anyone some first hand experience they can share?

Re: L450 Main Sail Removal

Hi Steve did you get this sorted?
Looked at mine but different (L450 #233) I have a hex screw and nut holding the Baton Pocket to the track car.

L450 Main Sail Removal

Hi Paul. It came down yesterday. I removed the cap screws on the cars and the pins came out easily enough which released the batten screw eyes (for a better word!). I managed to do it all myself at the end of the day and the main is now lashed to the deck. The task of replacing it will however be a two man job.

The yard Im hauling out in next week requires all sails to be removed to meet their insurance requirements. Its a royal pain but their rates are cheap.

Always interested in cheap haul out yards - even with sail removal - mind telling us where that is? Thanks!

Clark's Court Boatyard in southern Grenada. Its a new yard, construction is still in progress and as such CCBY have offered discounted rates on hauling in and out. As I understand thats about to end...the facilities here are nearly completed. All boat maintenance services are contractor based however and not subject to discounted rates.

Re: L450 Main Sail Removal

Brilliant thanks for the info. Btw my L450 (#276) also has hex head nuts. Don't strain yourself putting that main away!

Re: L450 Main Sail Removal

The joys of reconnecting the main and setting it all up still await me .... Blissfulness .
