Lagoon 380 S2 Questions About Other Options to Look at

Hi folks,

My wife and I are still in the early phases of research. One of the cats that has some initial appeal is the Lagoon 380S2. I've been on bigger lagoon's and liked the design. I'm waiting to hear back from a dealer in the US, but until then I was curious if anyone knew whether the 380 is available with a hard bimini? Also, if any owners could share their experiences with the boat, good or bad.

The 420 is very nice and I would love to get that but I have a feeling that its going to be waay over budget. Any suggestions for other cats that we should pay particular attention to? I see a lot of folks like the leapards, PDQs, and Broadblues.

Thanks in advance!

I just picked up a British publication with prices and it lists the L420 at $270,000 Euro's. Can anyone confirm that is the correct price? That's about $350K USD.

You can download a spreadsheet of the current pricing on the 420 at CatCo's website: Lagoon catamarans for sale

I'm afraid the prices have gone up quite a bit since the one you quoted was in effect, more than a year ago. Both the dollar was stronger against the Euro, and oil was quite a bit cheaper, too. We're getting it from both ends on that score.

I wouldn't rush in on a 380 yet as this has got to be next boat in the Lagoon range to be updated. When this will happen I'm not sure but it must be on the cards in the next 12/18 months due to the 410S2 being replaced with the 420, the 440 and 500 are still reasonably new designs leaving the 380S2 as the only one yet to be changed.
If you are set on a 380 wait until the new model is released to the media and large discounts will be made available to take the last hulls still in build.
Just my opinion?

Good to know, thanks for the info. We're still early in the process. I think we're almost set on a cat. Although we'll still look at some mono's at next months Strictly Sail in Oakland.

The Leopards (Moorings) all have hard top beminis as standard.

Makai is a Voyage/Maxim 380 similiar in size to the lagoon 380. As stated above wait and look at the little larger boats coming out. We love Makai and she is a great boat and we got her new before the price explosions.

We learned one maxium while cruising is that when you find the perfect boat, buy the next larger one.

After cruising in the Caribe on her for 2 1/2 years we returned to get a bigger boat. Though a 38 cat is roomy and fairly comfortable (a far cry above a mono) we found that the 44 in our case would have provided a little more room that we desire. (Yes we enjoy the McMansion cruising life not the camper life).

If we bought Makai today and in 2 years decided to sell we would have taken a heck of a price hit, but luckily our boat is worth more used than we paid new so it give us the option of selling and trading up.

My point is be sure. It is a lot of money and time to buy and prepare a boat then decide you should have gone bigger. Spend time chartering if possible both boats and compare.

I looked at a newer 380 in BVI and I was disappointed in the cockpit. There were locker/seats against the deckhouse bulkhead and a big recessed step down to the deckhouse entrance. Plenty of seating, but with the table in the way there wasn't much room to move around. Probably the cockpit is the same size as other 38s, but it felt small.

Did you locate Lagoon 380 S2 hardtop specs?

The 400 was announced last week - no specs yet.

Dealers in my part of the world are offering great discounts on 380's

I am considering ordering one with hardtop.

Has anyone located detail reviews of 380 S2 with polar diagrams etc.

Sorry, the price is £270k That's Pounds (not Euros) and there are two of those to the $US so about $540k

Thanks for all the responses, but we chartered the 380 S2 in the Grenadines this past summer and have decided to take the boat off our list. I wrote up my review in another thread so I won't rehash it here. Please don't read too much into that, the boat is fine but after living on it for a week you get a better feel of what you like and dislike, and its not the right fit for us.
