Lagoon 500 davits

Hello we would like to reinforce our 2009 lagoon 500 davits which I believe are currently limited to 250kg. We are looking at buying a novurania 400dx which with outboard is about 750lbs loaded.

Any advice on davits reinforcement options? We are reducing the aft weight by switching to lithium and really want a great dink for watersports and a bigger family. Any advice?

Re: Lagoon 500 davits

Hello,

If you buy new davits, I may be interested in buying your old ones. I am located in the BVI.

Thanks,

Kevin

Re: Lagoon 500 davits

I keep thinking that the Davits need to be more useful than just somewhere to hang the dink. I would look at very strong vertical davit Poles at least 2.1 meters tall. That can then be Used to support a large Solar Array across the back thus tying them back to the strong Hard Top supports across the rear deck area. Use the hinged style as on some Leopards and I believe some of the newer Lagoons. This will then enable you to lift the dink higher away from the water and support a 3kW solar array that you will want to charge those good lithium batteries.

Unless you are set on the Nouvurania, I would look at other simular boats, with lighter Aluminium hull, Highfield seem to have a deal with Lagoon which you may be able to take advantage of been a Lagoon owner.

Suggest you have an Engineer prepare some concepts for you. You will impose significantly more loads, including dynamics, into your hull and you may discover that strengthening will be needed.

Re: Lagoon 500 davits

We ended up going with the AB Aluminum dink however the weight is still about 550LBS so we are going to reinforce. I will post some pictures once we finalize on the design for immobilizing the dink and beefing up the structure.

As for the solar we are taking a close look at the Asseaboat solution that extends on the hardtop - Davits and Roof - Wing System

Thank you all for the advice above..

Hi Dansand,

Noticed on your thread that you were looking at Asseaboat for solar. Also doing the same.
Just wondering if you went with them and if so how did the install go?

Cheers,

Andy

Re: Lagoon 500 davits

We opted to go with a Solar array + Davit system from Custom Pipes in FLL. The structure supports 1240 watts & is wired to a Victron MPPT for charging the Lithionics bank. On a sunny day at high noon it pumps a bit better than 75AH .

Let me know if you are interested in any additional refit details. We love our L500...

That is a very nice solution, I like the fact that you are making the the uprights do more than one job.

Very nice piece of work indeed. IMHO a bit over engineered and I guess quite heavy. Needs a few adjustments (from the pictures). What panels did you install ? Is the winch the "spinlock" as well ? Nice pulley work/placement, gives me some ideas... thanks for sharing !

Re: Lagoon 500 davits

Not as heavy as you would think as it is all aluminum. We have changed the pulleys a bit to perfect the setup. Panels are lg 315’s and the winch is a ha ken 40. Only change I would make is to allow the panels to tilt so I can catch the last bit of sun for the day. As I write this I. The Exumas the array has put out 7.3kwh and no need for the generator in the last two days....

Here is a picture from the top of the fly bridge...
