Re: Lagoon get together Whitsundays Australia 2016

If it was just you guys & us then we would not have to share the full bottle of Jacobs Creek bubbly you left on Seabreeze last time. FYI we've stored it away for our next meeting.

Re: Lagoon get together Whitsundays Australia 2016

10 boats confirmed so far, 6 more I am still trying to contact. 5 that regrettably can not make as they already have commitments further North. Not bad for Greg and Sue on S.V Sunshine trying to get a couple of Lagoons together while in the Whitsundays.

Re: Lagoon get together Whitsundays Australia 2016

Hello all,
my deepest apologies for not posting earlier but Sue and I have been out of comms range for the past weeks as we went way out of comfort zone and visited the outer reefs north east of the Whitsundays. Currently we are back in the land of the interent and phone and currenlty anchored in Woodward Bay. All I can say is that if you have the oppurtunity, grab it with both hands and head to reef. We visisted Bait, Hardy and Line Reefs and had the most awesome time. (If not apprehensive at times).
My sincere thanks to Paul who has been hard at work putting things in place while Sue and I have been incumicado. So far we have ten confirmed Lagoons, way more then I was expecting but making it way more exciting plus several maybes. We now have the support of TMG (The Multihull Group) who are the Australian agents for Lagoon Catamarans. Many many thanks to John Cowpe the mananing director for his support.
So the 17th August is firming up as a very much informal Lagoon get together. Its getting closer very fast and looking forward to meeting and speaking with all of you who attend. I will guarnatee a write up of the event.

Update - Whitsunday Lagoon Get Together.

Hello all, The other day I recieved some excellent news, John Cowpe, the managing director for The Mulithull Group and Australian agents for Lagoon has confirmed that he will be atteding our little get together. Now remember this is a very informal shindig but John indicated very early in the precedings that he would love to attend and just be part of the group, an invitation was duly accepted by him. So for all of you who want to meet John and chat about our beloved boats and hear the latest about Lagoons, this is your chance. I believe we are now up to 11 confirmed Lagoons attending and several other maybes.

Re: Lagoon get together Whitsundays Australia 2016

Update - Whitsunday Lagoon get together.

Hello all,
Well we are not going to get lonely at the get together, 14, yes 14 Lagoons Catamarans confirmed to attend. We have a list of Lagoons attending and their contact details. Paul and Katheryn from Moor R and R are sending details out to attendees via email.
Due to the amount of people and boats now attending both Paul and I thought that sundowners would not give sufficient time for people to meet each other and chat. As such Paul has arranged a couple of portable BBQ's and we will be having a sausage sizzle on the beach at 1pm (sausages, bread sausces supplied) followed by Sundowners at 5pm on Wednesday the 17th August 2016. You will need to bring your own chairs, refreshment, bugspray and of course yourselves, plus a liberal dosing of good humour. We envisage that after Sundowners people may wish to retire to respective Lagoons to continue socialising.
I am sure everyone understands that this little shindig is completley weather depdendant. Based on weather reports a final decision as to location A) Whitehaven Beach. Plan B) Cid Harbour will be made two days prior and will be posted here and on the Lagoon onwers Facebook page. Also check your emails.
Once again many thanks to Paul and Kathryn off Moor R and R for all their efforts to date. They have been much appreciated.

Re: Lagoon get together Whitsundays Australia 2016

Hello all,
just an update. I and others am monitoring the weather very closely to determine the exact location of this informal get together. Given the vagaries of weather forecast we will advise on Monday the 15th through here and the Facebook Lagoon site of the final destinatioin be it Whitehaven or Cid Harbour. Whitehaven is well protected to winds to 25 knots from the SE and is still the favoured location at this time. Keep you fingers crossed folks. . Regardless of location its shaping up as a great get together of Lagoon boat owners and crew.

Re: Lagoon get together Whitsundays Australia 2016

Whitsunday Lagoon get Together update.

Hello all, ealier then expected but due to the forecast winds we have made the decision to move the "Get Together' to Cid Harbour off Sawmill Beach (anchorage 2 in 100 magic miles) on Wednesday the 17th August .

While disapointing the forecast allows those attending an oppurtunity to arrive early and settle in. Knowing the forecast I must stress that it is the skipper/owner of each boats decision to attend. Remember this is only a very informal get together and we do not wish for any person to put themselves, their crew or their boat at risk.

Looking forward to meeting you all there.

Re: Lagoon get together Whitsundays Australia 2016

Hello all,
We as I type "Sunshine" is safely anchored in Cid Harbour just off Sawmill Beach. From a quick look around there are 6 or 7 Lagoon catamarans on the attending list already anchored nearby. Given the forecast we left Whisper Bay (adjacent Abell Point Marina) at 7am this morning in company of Moor R & R to time the tide, crossing the Whitsunday Passage.
We recorded a 36 knot gust in the Molle passage and some lumpy seas and having gone through Unsafe Passage and entering the Whitsunday passage we had a sustained 28 knots. We only motored given the conditions but the Lagoons has impeccable manners and the trip was quite comfortable overall. The seas were roughly 2 metres on a 1 metre swell.
The anchorage is extremely protected much more so than Whisper Bay. While there are quite a few boats here there is plenty of room for a lot more boats. For those of you who may be wondering, the sausages for the sausgae sizzle arrived safely. .
Hope to see more of you here over the next couple of days BUT please travel safely if you decide to come given the weather. Moor R and R is flying a large Lagoon flag if you are looking for us and we are nearby with a large smiling sun on the bow.

Re: Lagoon get together Whitsundays Australia 2016

Currently in Happy Bay, Long Island with Trev & Gaye (Biaha), with 20 to 27 knot bullets shaking the rigging, but hopefully will be able to do the dash across the "Passage" in the morning.

Just need to get the respective Admirals to move their herb gardens to safer storage for the crossing. Last time in similar conditions, one if Ned's Coriander & Parsley pots fell all the way into the starboard hull from the saloon bench.

If we don't make it tomorrow then we'll try again Wednesday. We'll be the ones with the salt covered sails & decks.

Dave & Ned

Re: Lagoon get together Whitsundays Australia 2016

Hi guys,

please explain the reason for timing your passage with the tides - I usually look at these when I'm afraid I'll run out of room below the boat...

We are planning to cross over from Airlie Beach tomorrow, given that it looks like the weather will be a bit nicer...

See you over there...

Re: Lagoon get together Whitsundays Australia 2016

Hi Oliver,
Really hope you can make it tomorrow. There are 12 Lagoons here already and more on the way.
Knowing the tides up here is very relevant not only depth but also very relevant here in the Whitsundays for planning a passage to the islands. The ebbing tide runs north and the rising tide runs south. Crossing the Whitsunday Passage against the tide can slow your trip considerably but more importantly in adverse condition where the wind is against tide it can make the sea stand up to the point of great discomfort and can at times really test a boat. The seas not only stand up but they are very very close together which may result in you taking green water over the bow.
With the present wind conditions crossing the Whitsunday Passage and also the Molle passage is a lot smother if the tide is going the same direction as the wind. Its not so important in lesser winds but over 15 knots of opposing wind and tide it can really be very very unpleasant.
Hope this was of some assistance.

Re: Lagoon get together Whitsundays Australia 2016

Hi Oliver,
yes after 9.40am would be good even an hour before is OK as tide is minimal. Sorry for late reply but just back from meeting all 14 Lagoon owners who are here at moment. Be great to see you here. Sausage sizzle at Dugong Beach starts at 12pm.
Most Lagoon are located at Cid Harbour anchorage No 2 in book "Hundred Magic Miles" Plenty of room to anchor in good holding.
