Leg swinging action on Lagoon 400 (bed gap)

So... on the forward cabins on the Lagoon 400, it seems you can swing your legs around like the thumbnail below.
After ruling out the Athena 38 for being too cozy, I'm left with the Lagoon 380 in my very very shortlist... but even though I can't afford a 400, I can't stop looking it!

I know its a relatively small details, but the way you can swing your legs around the forward cabin beds is just fantastic! You can never do that in a boat!

Question: How hard would it be to retrofit this concept on to a L380 or 400.
The 400, I think you could only do @ the stern due to orientation of fwd cabins, and I can't remember where the engines are on the 410, so possible that its not possible at all (if they are under stern beds).
So... the 380... possible? Practical?
I would only need to do it to our 'master' bed... and yes, I do say 'our' - there's me and wifey in the bed. I realise it makes the bed smaller, but the added comfort / non-clamberingness associated with the amazing leg swinging action just seems so fantastic.

Thoughts?

(Sorry, madly rushed post, wifey is rushing me to dinner)

OK - starting a thread while rushed = bad idea.
It seems you can't edit your own post after x minutes.

I meant to ask how hard it would be to retrofit the L400 Bed on to an L380 or L410.
ie. the following is supposed to be talking about the 410 - NOT the 400.

Not totally sure but isn't that the aft cabin with the rectangular porthole at the bedhead?
Cheers.

You're absolutely right! Yes, it is the AFT not the forward cabins that have the fantastic leg swinging action. Sheesh... I want to start over! The fwd cabins have the funky V thing going on.

Keeping the floor clean in that leg swinging space looks like it was be a royal PITA

Really you can modify the interiors any which way, the biggest problem is matching the faux pas wood grains.

Modern production boat fit outs have devolved to IKEA or less. The timber is what we call "photo finish" a bit like K-mart wood panelling without the random grooves.

Taking a boat to Thailand say and getting a nice teak fitout would be a good move. Or on the less adventurous track refit how you want and epoxy/poly-u paint inside.

I think the new 39 has two heads only i like that idea but hate the jammed in bed across the beam of the boat, it reminds me of making a bed in a caravan!

We have a 3 cabin owners version and i'd like to remove one head/shower unit and have just the one much bigger one servicing two cabins which would give a much better shower unit.

The biggest problem is when they build moulded boats the last thing to go on is the deck so any later refitting entails destruction of existing big time.

Boats tend to be an expression of the owner a bit like custom cars i guess. We are constantly amazed by the ingenuity shown in different peoples boats, often taking idea's for ourselves.

Cheers Frank

If using a shovel & broom or the pointey end of the vacuum cleaner becomes my chore, i'll gladly make the trade off for the convieniance of actually being able to swing outta bed. The bigger questions is, is there actually enough room to swing out, and then shimmy/walk down to the door. I have a funny feeling you might end up doing a butt wiggle bouncey thing to get to the end of the bed anyway.

Lagoon4US, you have the 440 owners version right? From the pics I've seen, you have fantastic leg-swing space. Do you have to shimmy?

I guess the answer to my main question is, "Yes you could hack up one of your 380 beds and make yourself some leg room... is it worth it is another question entirely"

Re: Leg swinging action on Lagoon 400 (bed gap)

lol - i'm too new around these parts to be making jokes like that.
Also, sorry, I edited my post about 30 seconds after making it when I realised you had the 440.. I also then assumed that you had the same, if not better leg-swing room as the 420. I'm still not sure tho - and I'm still not sure if the butt wiggle is necessary.

Either way, I'm realising the reasons why the Lagoon 400 is a tough find for one looking in my price range.

Re: Leg swinging action on Lagoon 400 (bed gap)

There was an older 400 that went for 100k nearby and it was in very good condition, it was a desperate sail! It was ex-charter and money had recently been spent, it was quickly grabbed by another charter company.

Really the bed problem isn't a big issue, after having owned 35 foot mono's i would be very happy to then have got the room of a 400.

Doona's make bed making easier and vacuums make clean up a cinch.

Great boats.
Cheers

Hmmm... well, I still don't know if you need to bounce & butt wiggle to get from the middle of the bed to the end, but I think the answer for me is probably the much-repeated "get on board and see for yourself". Thats a little trickier for me in NZ, but I'll keep looking. I did actually see an L400 at a marina the other day... I must go back there with rum in hand.

Lol it's always the same old story you only hear about bargains!!!

Negotiating power of the rum, no wonder it's always gone! You spend a third of your boatlife in bed there's umpteen other things to check out other than swinging your leg LMAO!

Cheers

Re: Leg swinging action on Lagoon 400 (bed gap)

I think i've actually noticed some leg swinging on the 410 which is strangely cheaper and more accessible than the 400.

Decisions decisions... Either way, I need to go somewhere where I can have a good long look and leg swing on the various models.
