Need a quick measurement. I feel foolish...

So my water tank gauges are off line and I can't bring them back. They were terribly inaccurate anyway so I planned to install new WEMA senders and integrate them into my Victron network. Carefully planned everything before I left the boat 2 days ago and realized I forgot to get an approximate depth of the water tanks.

If anyone is on their 450 and can give me an approximate measurement from the top of the blue water tanks to the bottom it would be a great help! I'll shorten it a bit anyway - because the sender can be too short but not too long.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

would love to hear more details on this project when you have time. Are to planning to add it to the n2k network too?

Sorry, but i'm not on the boat at present either or I would have done your measurement.

Re: Need a quick measurement. I feel foolish...

The basic design is 2 new WEMA sensors (2 wire resistance), a pair of VE.Can Resistive Tank Sender Adapters, and adding the Color Control GX - something I've been meaning to do to tie together the 7 existing victron products I hav installed (BM700, 5 MPPT controllers and the Multiplus charger/inverter.

Will post pictures as it progresses - slowly because we will be cruising while building/integrating all this.

I've no idea how the current sensors work. I assume they are a analogue float type sender and that the water tank gauge in the fuse cabinet is calibrated to that?

I have 4 fresh water tanks (2/side) and 2 gauges on the digital display which isn't super accurate. Would it not be easier to convert the signal already coming from the tanks to nmea2000 and add it to the backbone to be viewed on the Zeus MFD?

I see in the CCGX manual that it supports nmea2000 tank sensors so maybe this is simpler?

ps, i've got the CCGX and it's a great bit of kit, I can spend far too long looking at it tho

The old sensors were never accurate anyway - at least on my older 450 they were not standard resistance sensors, just 4 level switches that indicated 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and full. I'd rather get a more precise estimate, convert it to N2K, and then view it where I can. The Zeus is on more recent boats with B&G; mine has older Raymarine products.

Hi Anjin

I have a 2012 4 cabin with 4 tanks. I did a quick measurement of one. They have a v shape to them to follow the shape of the hull. At the deepest part to the top was 16 inches. Its quite a diversified shape.

Cheers
