Portable Refrigerator / Freezer Recommendations

I am wanting to buy a portable 12 V freezer, I was looking at dometic or engel, Does anyone have any recommendations. ??

Also wanting to upgrade my existing water cooled refrigerator, thnking of going with alder barber air cooled super cool unit Danfoss db 50 compressor and evaporator. I need dependability and the water cooled unit on my lagoon 380 is 11 years old, and is getting a little tempermental.

Thanks.

Re: Portable Refrigerator freezer Recommendations

We got an Engel this summer a perfect match for us. At first the engine come on often compare to other and we got worry until we reminded your self it draw 2.5 amp

Best site for info on refrigeration is
KollmannMarine Boat Refrigeration Specialist

everything you need to know. Also on the 380 lots of people get the water from the tank and back instead of the sea just an idea.

Re: Portable Refrigerator / Freezer Recommendations

I bought an ENGEL MT 25 at least nine years ago now and it has worked flawlessly. I first just used it in refridgerator mode:
THE BIANKA LOG BLOG: WHAT WORKS! WHAT'S COOL!

But recently I've been using it in freezer mode when heading out on cruises. I carry some homemade frozen meals and freeze bottles of water that I rotate into a regular cooler in the morning and evening:
THE BIANKA LOG BLOG: IS THIS A COOL WORLD OR WHAT!
That has also worked out real well. My two 75 watt solar panels handle much of the load even when operating in freezer mode. Can't say anything bad about the ENGEL.

sold me on the engel! I want one as well to fit under the L380 cockpit seat. Any idea what model fits there comfortably? I guess I need a standard 12v outlet there as well.
Another cool song

+1 for the Engel - Mine hasn't missed a beat in the 5 years or so I have owned it. Used for camping and long car trips and gets a real workout!

After reviewing our options we purchased an edgestar 63qt portable. It works off either 110 or 12v, and power draw is minimal. We experimented and ran one at 34 degrees for 3.5 days on one small old deep cycle before it dropped too low to continue. It has digital controls , flash freeE mode, will freeze or fridge،، found ours new online for 439. Got the extended warr for a lil more been over a year of rough use and its flawless.

Re: Portable Refrigerator / Freezer Recommendations

We just purchased an Engel MT60 Combi unit (half freezer, half fridge). We have a Lagoon 380 too and wanted to add some additional fridge space so we wanted a unit that could do both. I can't vouch for it yet because I haven't even installed it but the size and specs seem a perfect fit.

Last year we replace our original refrigeration with a Frigoboat Capri 50K air/keel cooler & 380F Evaporator. It has been perfect for us, simple no maintanence unit that doesn't need a water pump. It's also very effecient and quiet.
