Single handles detached from small hatches

On our 2005 Lagoon 440 the handles/latches on small hatches above the heads have detached. I have tried reattaching them with 2 part epoxies after removing all the previous epoxy, roughing up the surfaces and cleaning with alcohol. The handles just dont stay attached.

Any ideas?

I am considering drilling a hole in the hatches and using a longer screw with plastic washers on the outside of the hatch.

FYI, I believe these are the small Lewmar ocean hatches.

Weirdly epoxy doesn't work nearly as well as most super glue formulations will. Try that after cleaning it up.

Re: Single handles detached from small hatches

I ended up drilling and securing with a longer bolt and nut. The nut is hidden inside a screw cover and blends in fine if you aren’t kneeling down and staring at it.

I’ve attached pics and the parts I used for the job. The glue was used on the handle base to the plexiglass. The silicon was just a dab under and inside the screw enclosure. The 10x24 2” screws were actually a perfect fit.

We did the hose test and everything seems water tight .... for now.
