where to install scuba tanks on L450

For L450 cruisers who are also divers and have compressor and gear on board, may i ask where you store your tanks ?

I have seen many setups, videos and pictures of the outsides of L450s, but couldn't find one with tanks outside.

On the Leopard forum, there are a few cases with people getting some transom extension/dedicated tubes on the stern for few (4) tanks.
May not be practical on the L450? Better way to do it? Inside storage only?

4 is a bit short, 6 would be best.

Are you using AL or steel ?

Thanks !

We keep 4 tanks in a pelican rack midship.

Aluminum tanks.

The steel tank right beside the aluminum one are both 80 cu ft.
Well actually aluminum tanks are just under 80 cu ft. The steel tank due to buoyancy has you carrying little if any lead, the aluminum a lot more lead, and the aluminum tank is much heavier and longer too, but displaces a lot more water due to its size, that is why you have to carry so much lead.

Th tank in the middle of the steels is a 100 cu ft tank, my favorite. The far left steel is a 130, which gets a little too big and heavy for rec diving in my opinion

When we are diving regularly we secure our tanks (3) to the aft rails. For storage/security we place them in the lazzerette and the regs and other equipment into dive bags in the forward holds.

Put them outside as they make greak double duty fenders!

I sail a Cataliina 27 so this is not going to be a direct fit but may give you ideas.

Outside? I thought it would be challenging on the 450.
But good to know, thanks.

Yes, I built the rack to mount to the companionway hatch rails. The hatch still slides under the rack.

We stow the tanks above the engine in the locker.
right next to the tube of the rudders.

There you can put 3 port and 3 stbd.

Do you have a under floor storage/bilge in each hull? We do, and we store four tanks in there (two each side above mini keels). Aluminium far better on a boat where more chance of corrosion and less ability to wash properly.

Have easily stored 4 each side under the floor in the forward lockers plus dive gear. Could store a lot more in there.
