Wider Tender

All,

Noob Question #936....

Is there such a thing as a WIDE tender / RIB.

I'm aware I can put a 3.5m on a 450 easily, and a 3.8 at a pinch, but even these are not wide enough for what i'd like. Long enough yes, wide, no.

Ideally I'd like to be able to more easily Dive 4 people off the tender (plus 1 person driving), and several other uses where there would be 4 passengers who are doing things (Photography), not just sitting still, or where each of the 4 is carrying gear from boat to the shore (Such as a large hiking backpack).

A tender which is 1-2 ft WIDER (Internal space) than say the standard Carribe or Highfield versions would make this quite possible. Even if it had fatter tubes etc thats fine.

Any such beast or recommendations ?

Regards

PS: I'm used to doing all the above (with up to 8 passengers) on a Mk V Zodiac on larger vessels, but thats a tad large to put on a 450

Re: Wider Tender

You should be able to get away with another foot - 2 ft seems to be stretching it a bit.

HI,

Anything is possible with enough time and money... But you will likely need to modify or build a new davit system. The hang points are fixed, so if you widen the dink too much, your balance point will be impacted.... And the stock davit extensions will end up inside your dink, especially at its stern...

Re: Wider Tender

This is what I did to my 440 as I hated being limited to the davits that came with the boat. Not only the width of the dingy / the length / the weight / the carrying height.

Re: Wider Tender

A suggestion (get two dinghies)

Get a 13ft rollup with inflatable floor and just use that for diving with 4+ persons, deflate & put it away when finished, or just tow it, or store across the nets.

Keep a 10ft RIB with 20HP two stroke on the davits, then can use the same engine.

I doubt there will be a 10ft RIB that is 2 ft wider available, as it would be a slammer in any sort of chop.
