12 Volt Battery Reading Over 14?

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out what is going on. I have a 12 volt system in my boat. I have been anchored for the past 6 days, with no connection to power. I have been reading the voltages from time to time, they tend to start around 12.8, and have been dropping slowly. Last night I checked, around 12.4, ok no problem. But this morning it shot up to 14.5? All my electrical systems still work fine, but I am concerned. Is this a normal phenomenon?

Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

Either your meter is wrong or you have solar panels.

I do not have solar panels, and haven't ran the engine in 6 days, so no alternator charge. I'll see if I can get a second meter and report back.

If you genuinely have no charging sources active then you should not have 14V not even just floating certainly not after 6 days of even minimal loads bringing the SoC down.

So no it is not normal my first guess would be bad meter. Curious what the meter shows when alternator is charging.
