12v USB-C chargers?

This may be a bit off topic but I am looking to find a wall mounted 12v USB-C charger that can pump out 45w to use to charge up a Dell XPS13. I have 12v going to the spot I want to install, and already have a socket there for USB-2 devices and it works just fine but I cannot seem to find anything that works with USB-C, anyone out there know of one they could recommend? I have an inverter but I want something 12v so I don't have to run the inverter while under passage, especially at night when power consumption needs to stay low.

Nothing pops up on Google, Amazon, Bluesea, or any place else I can think of searching which leads me to believe I am SOL, at least for a while.

Re: 12v USB-C chargers?

Did you look for a "car adapter" designed for your laptop?

HP makes one pn X7W50AA#ABA https://www.google.com/shopping/prod...m_medium=tu_cu

Batpower? https://batpower.com/index.php?route...product_id=188

DIY from DC just isn't there yet unless you get into board-level soldering.

Otherwise go from an AC circuit, wall-wart unit like the Nekteck 90W unit. Insignia makes a good one too.

There are mountable pass-through Type C connectors if you really want to hide it, get a clean wall-mount finish.

Re: 12v USB-C chargers?

There are a plethora of USB C+.0 12v chargers out that should work. I use this one for my MacBook, only 30W, it just charges a bit slower than the 45W charger.

There are a few like this one if you want to wall mount. Not sure if it would work or not but it should?

Here is a link to a discussion regarding charging the Dell laptop with a USB-C. I think that you will find that 12v will not work but there is a lot of good information there

Re: 12v USB-C chargers?

This stuff is changing monthly, don't go off threads years old.

I would not put in less than 60W if intended to be a long-term fixture. And you want general compatibility with the PD standard, to service different future devices, do not focus on "good enough" for just one specific gadget.

Obviously 90W is better, and the two AC fed model I reco'd above have gotten great reviews.

Re: 12v USB-C chargers?

Thanks for the replies, the problem is the Dell will not charge at all below 45w so all of the car charger types I've seen will not work, I've already tried using the one I have installed now and the Dell just will not accept the power input. Most of the car chargers seem to Max out between 18w and 30w. Kind of annoying to say the least.

Thanks, it's the PD standard that I was missing in the searches. Seems at the moment the only ones with the PD chip are the lighter style 12V adapters which I guess I can get a lighter fixture for that spot. Thanks for this.

Re: 12v USB-C chargers?

Do not use a regular ciggie port for this.

If you do adapt one of the 12V versions designed for that, figure out how to break it down and hard-wire to the input feed, hidden away for a clean USB Type C wall port.

Or if you do want a ciggie style port, use a known-good quality maker like the Blue Sea with twist-loc feature, also backward-compatible with the standard design abortion.

Still pushing the ampacity rating at 90W at lower voltages, but should be OK for that 19V use case.
