24V bank being charged by outboard alternator?

Hey crew,
I’m most likely wording my question wrong in the google/various search functions so I decided to simply post up my question:

2 group 27’s AGM wired in series. Did such for 24v trolling motor.

“Split” battery to have 12v for outboard starter/alternator return as well as fish finder and nav lights.

Used trolling motor for most of day when not running the outboard to get to the fishing spots.

Checked both batteries at end of day and both appear to be charged (13v and 12.9v)

Could the alternator charge up the “split” battery to full and then “flow” into the second battery in series?

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. I should note a friend came to me with this question, so I may not have additional information readily available.

I would use a 12V alt and charge the batteries in turns.

Re: 24V bank being charged by outboard alternator?

dont' split the 24v bank for 12v stuff.. that is just very wrong.

add a 3rd 12v battery for the engine / loads. you can then charge the 24v bank from the 12v bank with something like a trollbridge
