24v winches

I have been gifted 3 electric winches, all 24v.
I don't have a 24v circuit.
I do have 2-250w solar panels.
I assume that I will have to add a pair of batteries and 24v reg.
How would you accomplish this?

Re: 24v winches

Choices, assuming you actually need to install 3 winches.

1. sell and replace them with 12V equivalent to match your existing infrastructure

2. convert everything on the boat to 24V

3. put in a new 24V battery bank and circuit parallel to the 12V

4. check out Yandina Trollbridge, http://www.yandina.com/troll2400info.htm

_____
No matter what, you have to figure out how to get enough watts input to drive the winches.

And you need to define "enough", how many Ah per day will they consume?

What other energy sources do you have besides that little bit of solar?

Re: 24v winches

Plug any consumer 24V battery charger into your inverter. Too easy.

Re: 24v winches

Look into series parallel switches. Install one extra battery (or use one of your existing bank) and with this switch create a 24V source for your winches.

When no longer needed switch back and all your batteries are in the 12V housebank and get charged that way.

Best of both worlds

Re: 24v winches

Exactly what the Yandina links are talking about.

If you have links to others that would be appreciated
