3GM30F engine coolant pump

My Yanmar 3GM30F has 1400 hours, mostly running between 2500-3000 rpm. The engine coolant water pump's pulley is clearly loose, one can wiggle it by hand. I suspect a bearing has failed. I am replacing the pump with a new Yanmar pump and I have two questions.

1. Is it common for a water pump failure to occur at 1400 hours?

2. Is it worth rebuilding the old pump to have as a spare.

Thanks,

George DuBose

Re: 3GM30F engine coolant pump

Mine had 1500 hours when I replaced the fresh water pump. Heard the bearing making a noise. Had play in the pulley.

Suspect that having the belt too tight can accelerate wear on the bearings. So be careful with that after the replacement.

Re: 3GM30F engine coolant pump

The belt has never been too tight, if anything a bit on the soft side.

I am interested in rebuilding the older unit for a spare.

Thanks,

George
