Re: AC to DC converters failing

It’s a modified sine wave.

Indeed, I was right and I was pretty sure of it. To the OP: the damage was caused by having the toothbrush etc. plugged into the outlet when the inverter is on. You have a modified sine inverter, which is known to kill toothbrushes and other appliances and electronics.

Unplug those to save them and next time you need to replace the inverter/charger (that is the correct term for the Freedom unit), select one that is pure sine (PSW) and you can keep everything plugged in.

Time for billknny and smac999 to share their thoughts about my reading and diagnosing skills again

Re: AC to DC converters failing

The freedom marine 20 inverter has a modified sine wave output.
My experience is that form is deadly to electronic type converters.
I have killed Arlec energy measuring meters and Toshiba computer power supplies. Generally fries the capacitors.

You would be far better off using a DC/DC booster. More efficient, cheaper and longer lasting.
I have used these units continuously for years without fail.
Suggested link for E-Bay at around $6.00

150W DC-DC Boost Converter 10-32V to 12-35V Step Up Charger Power Module.

Cheers
