Re: AGM Query

If you are interested in some of the more technical details of battery management such as the effect of DOD, temperature etc on battery life then this document is worth reading.

It is published by Hoppecke who primarily produce deep cycle flooded and gel industrial batteries, but many models are also ideal for a boat house bank. The detailed information is specific to this brand of battery.

It always worth finding the recommendations from your own battery manufacturer, but frequently detailed technical information is lacking, and this can help fill in some of the gaps.

Being in Australia, Every thing runs on 240 Volts, Or 12 volts on the boat,

My dedicated 240 volt AGM battery charger is 240 volts, It also runs off my 3000 watt Invertor which puts out 240 Volts,

But I use my 12 volt battery charger off my Generator to charge the batterys,
It puts out 8 amps for charging,
Takes about an hour to charge the batterys enough to start the diesel,
It has a dedicated 12 volt battery charger along with 2 x 240 volt outlets, Which runs any thing 240 volt that I plug into it, Grinders, Pressure Water washer, Watermaker, Domestic Toaster, Laptops, Etc,

My 12 volt, 240 volt Invertor output also runs a 240 Volt, 110 volt Transformer to run my 110 volt Dometic Fridge, on the boat,

After a week away, My fridge and Freezer suck too much power for my current bank of batterys, I do need more battery bank storage,
Connected to 240 volt at the Marina, It didnt matter, Everything worked,
Now I know why the previous owner ran the 110 Volt fridge off LP gas on a swing mooring,

I figured that, just didn't know what's so "special" about it. Sounded pretty normal, to me.
